Events and Activities For Families

Lent Devotional & Activities

We enjoyed using the family resources and readings through Advent last year so we decided to do it again for Lent and Easter. You can order Asheritah Ciuciu’s Lent devotional through amazon here (https://buff.ly/2LSpOjE) or through other book and audio retailers. Stay tuned for little extras and activities all through Lent (starting Wednesday. February 17th)

We are so thankful for how many families sand kids participated in the Fall Blessing project by decorating pumpkin cards and donating candy. We’ve decided to completed a similar project for the seniors at Lanark this spring. Through the month of March we’re asking families to print our and decorate the attached Butterfly card and return it to the church (either in the outside mailbox, or during a Sunday morning service). The butterflies will be added to a small potted plant and delivered to the residents at Lanark Home this Easter.

Prayer Partners for All Ages

During Lent we encourage everyone to find a Prayer Partner – and that means kids too! A prayer partner is someone your child can connect with and pray for each week.  It may be as simple as sharing prayer requests and going through a reading plan and then sharing thoughts or insights over Zoom, Facebook, the phone, or even through weekly letters. If you are having trouble finding a prayer partner for yourself or your child please contact the church office. There are lots of great devotionals on the Bible App (or you can follow our Lent devotional – outlined above).

Once you’ve connected your child with a prayer partner you can keep things simple by having them fill out THIS CARD each week.

Join your CHC family for a hour of crafting, and learning as each of our families assembles a set of resurrection eggs. Resurrection Eggs are a great tool that your family can use to tell, and retell the Easter story.

In the days leading up to the event you will receive your own crafting kit with all of the materials you need to build a set of resurrection eggs. Then on Friday, March 26th we invite you to join us on Zoom as we assemble our kits using clay, string, stickers and other craft materials.

This Week for Preschoolers

Story: A woman goes to Jesus and shows how thankful she is by washing His feet – Luke 7:36-50
Say This: Who loves you? Jesus loves me.
Remember This: “A friend loves at all times.” – Proverbs 17:17 NIrV
Do This At Bath Time: Let your child pick some toy friends to bathe. Show your child how to wet them with water and then dry them. Talk about how the woman in the Bible story wet Jesus’ feet with her tears and then dried them with her hair. She was so thankful that Jesus loved her no matter what.

This Week for Elementary Kids

Story: The Good Samaritan – Luke 10:25-37
Say This: Be kind to people who are different than you
Remember This: “You are God’s chosen people. You are holy and dearly loved. So put on tender mercy and kindness as if they were your clothes. Don’t be proud. Be gentle and patient.” – Colossians 3:12 NIrV
Do This At Drive Time: Go through your closet, toys, or pantry and fill a bag to donate to a local cause. As you are in the car on your way to donate items ask your child, “How do you think these items will show kindness to someone else? What does it feel like to be kind to someone you won’t ever meet? Why should we do this?”
